Snowed In

Well we made it through the snowy storm! We only have two Christmases to go and in a few weeks I will be heading back to work... crazy! Aaron and I left Christmas Eve to head back to Fonda for Christmas at the Kaufman's side. When we left Fort Dodge it was raining and the further west we got the worse things looked. Everyone made it back for Christmas Eve at Aaron's mom's house except for his brother Zach who came Christmas Morning.

Christmas morning we were snowed in as the gravel roads hadn't been plowed and we also had to wait for Aaron's dad to get the lane blowed out so Aaron and I went out and rode the four wheeler around the farm. At around noon or so we lost power at the farm so Aaron and I decided to try to make it to my parents to open gifts there before the snow got worse and the lane filled back up. We made it to my parents but only stayed about two hours so we could get back alright. When we got back to the farm the power was still off! They ended up not having power for 2 days. They did get the generator running for a little bit but there was a power surge and it turned back off, eventually they got it hooked up so that we could have water.... Janel suggested getting snow and melting it so we could have water to flush the toilets... thank goodness we had water! Luckily we did have heat because they have a wood burning stove so any meals that we ate we had to make on the wood burning stove. It was fun for the first couple hours but I enjoy all the technology that we have today and I am surely not a pioneer. We opened our gifts that evening in the candle light and played a couple games and headed to bed. Saturday night Aaron and I stayed at my parents house and enjoyed electricity. My parents were lucky to have electricity as everyone around them lost power. I am not sure how much snow total we got but I am guessing a foot and a foot and a half.

Aaron and I continue to look for a sitter for Kinnick and are hoping things will work out alright. We decided we didn't want to send him to daycare as an infant because we would like him to have more one on one care. So if anyone has suggestions or is interested let us know:)
